Professor Hisham Mehanna

Professor Mehanna leads the Institute of Head and Neck Studies and Education (InHANSE) group of researchers, with a track record of more than £17.5M grants and of ‘internationally-leading’ impact and publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, and Lancet Oncology. His research group is considered one of the leading groups in head and neck cancer internationally. Professor Mehanna’s research is highly translational, spanning the full pathway from molecule biology to phase III clinical trials and real-world data.

The group’s main research themes are:

• evaluation and validation of innovative therapies, through adaptive multi-centre clinical trials
• biomarkers of treatment response and treatment monitoring
• applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence in head and neck cancer
