Our impact

Building on Birmingham’s strong track record in experimental medicine, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC): Birmingham launched in 2017 as the first BRC in our region.

Our latest 5-year NIHR award of over £30.7 million will fund our work until 2027. This has enabled us to grow into a larger regional BRC, with an expanded research programme and a wider partnership network – so we can continue delivering cutting-edge research to benefit patients in our city, region and across the globe.
