Bio

Dr Caroline Gillett is an Assistant Professor in Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) at the University of Birmingham. Within the BRC Women’s Metabolic Health theme she works closely with The Hildas women’s health PPIE group to priority set and progress against our goal to advance the metabolic health of women and their offspring through early translational and experimental medicine research.

Caroline has a decade’s worth of experience supporting scientists and other professionals to embed PPIE best practice into their work at different stages of the research cycle. She has led funding bids, strategy development and culture change initiatives with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, to build capacity and collaboration in people-centred research. She is particularly passionate about co-creation of impact activities in partnership with lived experience advocates and other research collaborators. For example, since 2020 she has managed an artist residency programme, recently curating a sci-art exhibition featuring several creative collaborations that have helped engage the wider public with contemporary health challenges and research underway at Birmingham. Caroline also plays a proactive role in championing equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) through her own work and through citizenship activities within the wider university.
