Bio

Professor Parish is Deputy Director of the University of Birmingham’s Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences, where she is Professor of Tumour Virology.

Professor Parish is a leading expert in the molecular biology of human papillomavirus (HPV)-driven cancer. She has developed physiological models of HPV infection derived from primary human tissues and, in work funded by the Medical Research Council, is currently using these models to understand how oncogenic HPV drives transcriptional reprogramming of infected cells. Jo was previously the Chair of The Microbiology Society Virus Division (2020-2024) and has recently joined the Medical Research Council Infection and Immunity Board.
