Co creating Impact: Shaping an Inflammation Engineering Hub with Patients & the Public

What are we doing?

This hub is hoping to explore how we can be proactive in disease management for inflammation-driven conditions, giving the power back to patients in their disease management and creating new solutions outside of hospital settings. This initial meeting will allow us to develop the proposal with you, the public, to make sure that our priority setting is representative and allow us to shape the public involvement plans for the hub.

How can you help?

We are looking for people with experience of inflammation driven-disease and/or wearable health tech to attend a meeting on 13 August in Birmingham, 9.30 – 4.30pm. There is an online option but in person attendance is encouraged.

How will we support you?

£25/hr + travel within 50 miles of Birmingham

How to apply?

Complete this online form by 25 July.

Have your say in how children and young people’s data is used in research!

What are we doing?

Children & Adolescents Data Resource (CADRE) links de-identified children and young people data (0-24 years) from healthcare, social care and education. Researchers want to hear from different backgrounds to have a say in how their data is used.

How can you help?

We are looking for any adult who is a parent, carer or guardian to a child or young person under the age of 25 years old, who lives in the Midlands area, to attend three 2-hour sessions (online on Zoom) between now and December 2025.

How will we support you?

We will be following NIHR guidelines and offering £25/hr for all those involved - workshops will typically each last 2 hours long, with three workshops in total (£150 total compensation across all sessions for each participant).

How to apply?

Email Camilla Carr, Research Associate, on c.a.f.carr@bham.ac.uk to express your interest in this opportunity by 24 July.

Help us design our new public contributor newsletter

What are we doing?

The Birmingham Public Involvement Hub is developing a new newsletter for its public contributors and would like to get your input into the design of the newsletter so that it’s useful and relevant for you.

How can you help?

We are looking for public members to attend an online workshop on Wednesday 6th August 9.30 am – 11.30am where we will discuss ideas for the newsletter, get inspiration from existing newsletters and get your thoughts on what should be included. You don’t need to have any specific knowledge or experience, just be willing to share your thoughts, ideas and views on the proposed newsletter.

How will we support you?

We will offer £25 per hour for attending the meeting, so a total of £50.

How do I apply?

Please complete this short online form to express your interest by Monday 28 July at midday.

Share your thoughts on how your health data is used

What are we doing?

We want to explore how perceptions of anonymised health data use and awareness of the NHS data opt-out have evolved over the past few years. To do so, our researchers have co-developed a questionnaire with members of the public and patients.

How can you help?

Please complete the questionnaire – it should take less than 5 minutes. As this is online, for the question that asks, ‘Why are you here today?’, please choose the option of ‘other’.

How will we support you?

No payment is offered, but if you have any queries, please contact the PPIE Co-ordinator Faduma-Zahra Gure via f.m.gure@bham.ac.uk.
