Sparklers with numbers forming 2025

Happy New Year!

We hope you have all managed to have a lovely break over the festive period and are raring to go for 2025! Please see below for this month’s opportunities to get involved in research.

Research involvement opportunities

Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit (CRCTU) Patient Advisory Board (PAB)

What are we doing?

If you have experience of being involved in healthcare research and/or lived experience of cancer (directly or via a family member), you are invited to apply to join the Patient Advisory Board (PAB) at the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit (CRCTU).

The PAB will guide research priorities, oversee PPIE activities throughout the unit and champion equality, diversity and inclusivity (EDI). Through their work, the PAB will help to ensure that the research carried out by the CRCTU is of high quality and is relevant to the communities we serve.

How can you help?

Members will serve an initial term of 24-36 months, meet quarterly online for 2 hours and meet once per year in Birmingham, UK.

How will we support you?

Members will be reimbursed for their time, as well as for reasonable travel and subsistence expenses. Honorarium for the 2-hour meetings will be £50 plus a £5 virtual activity allowance. For in-person meetings, the day rate is £80. Training is also part of this role, including an induction.

Contact us

To apply, please complete this form by the 17 January, or if you are interested in finding out more, contact Rhianna Parsons, the CRCTU PPIE Officer via email at r.h.parsons@bham.ac.uk. She will be happy to schedule a telephone call, videocall or in person meeting, or discuss via email.

Change NHS survey

The NHS has been there for us for over 76 years. But to make sure the NHS is here for the next 76 years, doing all it can to support the health of everyone, they need your help. They want to have the biggest ever conversation about the future of the NHS.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a lot or a little to say. Your views, experiences and ideas will shape a new 10 Year Health Plan for England. This is open to everyone. If you are a member of the public or someone who works in health and care in England, fill out the survey, to share how the NHS needs to change.

Can you help us share good practice?

Have you been involved in a piece of research that you feel shows good practice for public involvement? Are you willing to share that with us so we can improve how we involve the public in our research? The case studies will be examples of PPIE which will help our researchers to increase their knowledge of good practice, leading to better research outcomes and PPIE practices.

Please let us know if you have something you think we can share, and we are happy to offer support to create it (including offering payment). Just contact us via brcppie@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
